The movement of the pieces is not really difficult to learn but it takes some practice to be a good strategist when playing the game. Another reason for this is because often in school chess clubs it is the very smart and gifted students who choose to join the chess club.
Casual chess games are played without being time, but sometimes it is played as a timed game. The timed games are usually only played by professional players or in clubs. In a timed game, if the time is up the game is lost automatically if the opponent has enough pieces left on the board to put the king in check. The games are played in time ranges from long games that are played up to 7 hours, and short games which can last as little as thirty minutes to an hour. What is Chess
Chess is a board game that involves a board divided in 64 squares ( 8 X 8), 32 pieces and two players to be played. The goal of the game is that one player checkmate the other one, meaning that the king is under attack and it cannot be moved or defended from the actual position.
Each player has 16 pieces that are either white or black. These are: a king, a queen, twoknights, two rooks, two bishops and eight pawns. The two players are reffered to as “Black” and “White”. The first one to make a move is White then each player moves one piece at a time. The piece can be moved on an empty square or on a square that is occupied by one of the opponent’s pieces. In the last case, the player moving captures the piece of the opponent. Each piece can do only a certain move.
The king can move one square in any desirable direction and it also has another move called castling and this one also involves a rook. The queen can move any direction, file, rank or diagonal, how many squares the palyer wants, but the queen cannot leap over other pieces. The bishop can move on the diagonal only, any number of squares. It cannot leap other pieces. The rook moves on file or rank, any number of squares and cannot leap another piece. It is also involved in the castling move. The knight moves on a L-shaped trajectory long of three squares and wide of two squares. It can leap over any other piece. The pawn can move only one square at a time and only in front, if it is unoccupied. To capyure, the pawn can move one square in front on its diagonal. The pawn also has two special moves: promotion and en passant capture.
